Boy Scouts of America ban Conservative Scout Masters!

Today Wayne Brook, Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America made a surprise announcement.  Amongst controversy about the Boy Scouts reaffirming their policy to not allow homosexuals to be members or scout masters, Brook announce that Conservatives will also now be banned from the Boy Scouts.  The announcement sent ripples through the conservative community and initially Brook was reticent to explain why the position had been taken.  However, last night on the Sean Hannity Show on the Fox Network, Brook collapsed under the laser wit and questioning of Mr. Hannity and finally admitted the reason.  Brook said, “Given the information we’ve received on the levels of closeted gay Conservatives, we just can’t chance it, this is the youth of America at stake.”

The reasoning absolutely shocked Sean Hannity and particularly as it came in the last-minute of the program, there was no time for further questions for Mr. Brook.  Conservative talk show icon Rush Limbaugh speaking at a public appearance in Boca Raton, Florida was hit with a question about the controversy.  A reporter from the local newspaper asked Mr. Limbaugh if it was true that he was one of the closeted gays in the Conservative Community being referenced by Mr. Brook.  Limbaugh, caught off-guard by the question, didn’t seem able to respond and was quickly escorted from the venue shortly after.  Later a representative for Mr. Limbaugh said, “Mr. Limbaugh didn’t respond because he wasn’t willing to dignify the question with a response.”  Is Rush Limbaugh gay?

Some people have questioned whether or not Limbaugh even appeared at the event, but it has been reported that shortly after the event an empty Oxycontin vial was found near the podium.  Of course this controversy has raised questions about the sexual preference of many conservative talking heads and political wonks and really of most of the announcers for the Fox News Network.  Is there a secret gay agenda at work at Fox!?

Satire – the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

The Boy Scouts of America have helped a lot of young men in this country build character and be successful.  Which is why it is so sad that they have taken such a bigoted and idiotic stance when it comes to allowing homosexuals to be involved with the organization.  Now let us be clear, the Boy Scouts have the right to do this, just as another bigoted group, the Ku Klux Klan has the right to ban people from their group, this is the freedom Conservatives talk so much about and I support it.  However, the same idiotic and mythological thinking is at work in both groups.  You see the klan thinks that people of color, Jews and Catholics are all inferior a clearly ridiculous idea.  The scouts are buying in to the idiotic idea that all gay men are either predatory pedophiles or trying to recruit young men under an imaginary homosexual agenda.  If you believe either of these things you are a moron, plain and simple, and I’m sad that the Boy Scouts of America are now a group that can be so easily and accurately compared to a racist group like the Ku Klux Klan.

Today is a very sad day, the American Dream is dead.

So today at work I found out that a 30+ year employee of the college had died, her name was Cleone.  She was the prototypical lunch lady in many ways and worked as a cashier in the cafeteria.  She was older, probably in her 60’s and worked hard for what little she was making in her job.  She was a very nice woman, although she routinely put up with a lot of lip from students, staff and faculty she kept a generally positive attitude.

I usually buy breakfast at the cafeteria on Thursdays and she would be working the register, we’d stop and chat for a time and we always made each other laugh.  Hell, occasionally she’d even cut me a break on the price of my breakfast burrito.  She was a nice person; it makes me sad to know she won’t be there this Thursday morning.

What makes me even sadder is the realization of how many people in this country, like Cleone, work right up until the day they die.  Good people, hard-working people who cannot afford to retire because of the realities of the costs of housing and health care.  The American Dream is dead, we were told when we were young that we could be anything we want.  We were shown a model where you go to school, get good grades and work hard and you’ll be rewarded.  Your company will give you a gold watch and a nice retirement check, you’ll be able to take cruises or go fishing, Social Security and will make up the difference.  You’ll be taken care of in old age between Medicaid and your retirement benefits.

Conservative commentators like to tell us that the reason people like Cleone are in the position they are in is because they just didn’t work hard enough, or weren’t motivated enough.  If you believe them, anyone with wealth in this country is essentially just better than those who haven’t achieved it.  There are no twists of fate or unfortunate circumstances, if you work hard you win, if not you lose.  Bullshit to that, my buddy Cleone worked hard and she lost, the asshole commentators in their suits and ridiculous hair are not better than her, or you, or me, do you hear that Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck.

The dream is dead and Cleone is just one of the first wave, there are a lot of baby boomers who will make out fine, but my generation, many of the people I grew up with are heading for Cleone’s fate, hell, I may be heading for Cleone’s fate, like I said when I started, it’s a sad day today.

So Newt Gingrich, shortly after announcing his candidacy for president also explained that Obama can’t win in a fair election.  He believes because Obama is a sitting president and raising huge amounts of money that he can’t lose.  Nothing like prepping your concession speech before you even get the nomination.

Donald Trump and Mike Huckabee have both bowed out of the election so the gallery of nut jobs that might be running for president is quickly thinning down.  At this point it’s the Gingrich – Paul show with a potential run by Tea Party darling Michele Bachmann or perhaps a late run by dark horse candidate Sarah Palin, although much like Huckabee I think she’s enjoying that Fox News paycheck a little too much to run.

I am really going to miss that Donald Trump isn’t running, I mean seriously, who else is going to personify crazy in this election.  Sure Gingrich, the hypocrite who was cheating on his wife while trying to fry Clinton for doing the same, has confessed his sins on Christian Television and will certainly provide us with a few good gaffs during the race.  But really, no Palin, no Trump this might end up being a very boring presidential campaign.

Now I know what my conservative friends are going to jump on, hey, Limbaugh is on the radio and Sesame Street is on TV.   Yes, I know this, but I have to wonder if the Republicans would be going after Sesame Street if the show was full of little white kids who didn’t recycle or try and learn about different cultures and instead went out shooting in Alaska.  Maybe the real issue with PBS is that shows like NOVA talk about actual science and dare to discuss the concept of evolution.   Or maybe that PBS has actually dared in the past to show foreign TV like Doctor Who or Monty Python.  And to I have to say anything other than Masterpiece Theater?

I know the argument on the other side, TV shouldn’t be subsidized, the problem is if we don’t subsidize TV, apparently we end up with the Kardashians, rich wives TV, Jersey Shore and bullshit science shows that are more entertainment than science.  Hell we should support PBS for no other reason than the fact that  it is Snooki free.

When I was younger there were two multi-part shows that had a major impact on me.  The first was Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, it was awe inspiring, an amazing series that brought the universe into my living room and did so with accurate and fascinating science.  The other was Ken Burn’s Civil War, using pictures, letters and interviews with history legends like Shelby Foote the show gave an in depth history lesson to the causes and actions of the civil war.  There were no re-enactments, no blood, no lurid sex scenes so let’s face it; it would have never been green lit for commercial TV.  The idea that we can’t subsidize this sort of television, when we subsidize the oil industry is just criminal.

It amazes me how we continually make congress out to be so damn special.  I think the events that occurred in Arizona this past week are horrendous.  It’s an incredibly sad thing to see 6 people killed, a dozen or so wounded including a congresswoman. You can read more about that in one of my previous posts:

I get the excessive news coverage and the endless talking heads we will now suffer on everything from the effects of angry rhetoric to gun control with everyone of course taking their same old tired positions.  But what has me annoyed today is a national moment of silence, what a bunch of bull.

Why did the president ask for a moment of silence today, because 6 people were killed, because a child was killed?  I don’t think so, or else we certainly would have had a moment of silence over either of these events:

New Years Day fire in Washington State kills father and 4 children:

Kentucky man kills wife, witness and self over badly cooked meal:

All of these people died tragically, some violently, in Washington State on New Years Day four innocent children died, but none of them nor thousands of other people violently killed in the past year got a national moment of silence, why?  It’s simple hey didn’t have the good fortune of getting killed standing next to a congresswoman, their deaths did not deserve less attention or respect.
