Fun Friday: Rick Santorum quotes

So the psychobilly nutjob Olympics, also known as the GOP presidential primary is down to a two man race.  So I figured for fun Friday I’d give you a deeper look at one of the men at the top, former Republican Senator from Pennsylvania Rick Santorum.

First of course, if you haven’t before, check out the Urban Dictionary entry for Santorum

On contraception:

“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country…. Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that’s okay, contraception is okay. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”Rick Santorum

The best part of this quote on education is that the speech made by Obama actually suggested the exact same thing Mr. Frothy suggested:

”President Obama wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob … Oh, I understand why he wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image.”Rick Santorum, speaking to a Tea Party group in Michigan (February 2012)

On the speech JFK made to show why Catholic’s like Santorum should be considered for president:

“Earlier in my political career, I had the opportunity to read the speech, and I almost threw up.”Rick Santorum, on JFK’s 1960 speech about the importance of separation of church and state (October 2011)

Uhhhh Whaaat??

“The question is — and this is what Barack Obama didn’t want to answer — is that human life a person under the Constitution? And Barack Obama says no. Well if that person — human life is not a person, then — I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say, ‘We’re going to decide who are people and who are not people.’”Rick Santorum, CNS News interview (January 2011)

Maybe Rick should take a history class from Professor Gingrich

“The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical. And that is what the perception is by the American Left who hates Christendom. … What I’m talking about is onward American soldiers. What we’re talking about are core American values.”Rick Santorum, campaigning for president in South Carolina (February 2011)

Christine O’Donnell the epitome of the American Dream

In case you don’t remember who Christine O’Donnell is, she’s the political wunderkind, Tea Party poster child who pulled an upset in the 2010 GOP primary to run for senate in Delaware.  Of course she was mercilessly crushed in the general election losing by over 30% in the voting.  Now this was not that shocking, she’d lost a house due to none payment, had been fired from a job then unsuccessfully sued them for $9 million for gender discrimination and emotional distress.  Politically she started out as a pro-choice liberal, had an epiphany at 21 and became and born again, pro-life Republican.

However after all of that she is probably most famous for her commercial where she denied being a witch, check it out.

Doesn’t sound so bad, but check out The Young Turks re-edit of the video, much more fun to watch:

So after this incredible debacle she was obviously laughed off the political stage and forgotten about right?  Not in America, who do I see on CNN tonight as a political commentator on GOP issues, that’s right, Christine O’Donnell, who says the American Dream is dead!

At the value voters summit this weekend, once again so-called “value” voters have once again demonstrated that intolerance is one of their core values.  Pastor Robert Jefress in his introduction of Rick Perry worked in a solid dig at Romney and his cult follower status as a Mormon.  In case you’d like to think it was misinterpreted you can read the article below where he reaffirms and defends his comment although he tried to put an intellectual spin on it:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10/09/baptist-pastor-defends-cult-description-mormonism-still-backs-romney-over-obama/

This sets up an interesting question for the upcoming election if it’s Romney vs Obama, particularly south of the Manson-Nixon line, yes that’s sarcasm so save the Mason-Dixon correction statements.  In all deference to Herman Cain who doesn’t believe there is any significant racism left in this country I have to wonder.  Who will southern evangelicals be more likely to vote for, a member of the Mormon cult or a black Christian?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that the GOP big wigs and money people have been begging New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to run for president.  I guess the main reason they want him is because the current cast of clowns is highly unelectable, but very entertaining.  Given that the current field includes Michele “holy cow is she serious”, “oh it’s ok we’ll pray the gay away” Bachman, Mitt “yeah the boring Mormon guy” Romney, and Governor Rick “you think Bush was nuts you ain’t seen nuthin” Perry and Herman “The Godfather” Cain former CEO of Godfather pizza, I kind of get why the money people might be looking for someone else to run in 2012.

Given Obama has the worst economy in decades and the poll numbers to prove it, how sad is it that your party is still looking if you’re running for president.  I think somewhere there must be a pool taking bets on which candidate commits suicide first, my money, were I to bet would be on Newt “sorry we forgot you’re running” Gingrich.

This all leads to cries for the candidacy of Chris Christie, a really likeable, not so nutty, plain speaking Republican a man whose word you can count on, a man who stands for something and stands behind his positions.  His position on running for president of course is best summed up at the following link:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/64493.html

The clip above shows Christie saying no, again and again, including his question of “do I have to commit suicide in order for people to believe me?”

At this moment, I have a lot of respect for Chris Christie I can respect a man who makes a decision and stands behind it.  Of course the news all day is that he’s now considering running.  If he runs, he must lose, how can a man who stands so strongly behind the word no, turn around and run, and have the respect of anyone enough to win.  But hell, I gave up on thinking logic and honor meant anything in politics a long time ago.
