Fox News lies too much for Canada

I was sitting yesterday at a conference listening to a speaker and was surprised to hear her assert that given Canadian law Fox News can’t broadcast from Canada.  Why?  Because they tell too many lies.  So I set out today to explore this issue a little bit and really was shocked to find out, she was telling the truth.  According to the Huffington Post, there is a push in Canada by the conservative minded Prime Minister to repeal a provision in the Canadian Broadcasting regulations that ban networks or shows that broadcast any false or misleading news.

It is this law that has kept Fox News from being able to broadcast from Canada, this doesn’t prevent Fox News from beaming a signal into Canada, but they can’t broadcast within Canada.  For all of those people who believe Fox News is fair and balanced guess again, not so fair, not so balanced, not so honest  and not broadcasting from Florida because of it.  Spin that O’Reilly!

Warning, the following piece contains offensive language, there are words, thoughts and ideas below that may offend you and even worse make you challenge what you believe, finally the piece might just piss you off.  You’ve been warned.

American Hypocrisy: Pissin on the Taliban

So as I’m sure most of you have heard by now a video has gone viral on the internet showing several US Marines pissing on Taliban soldiers they had just killed in battle.  If you haven’t somehow heard about this, here’s a link:  http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/13/world/asia/video-said-to-show-marines-urinating-on-taliban-corpses.html

Now everyone is of course up in arms that US Marines would do something as horrible as piss on the enemy’s dead.  America, land of the free, home of hypocrisy.  I mean really folks, pissing on a corpse, is this so horrible?  First let’s address the thing you all want to say to me right now, what if it was your relative?  My answer, piss away Marine, piss away and you, can piss off.  If you have ever seen the dead body of a loved one you know, there is nothing in a corpse that is remotely reflective of the individual you once knew.  A corpse is, a piece of rotting meat, or in most cases these days, oddly preserved meat that won’t rot as quickly in the ground.  Really, what’s the point, either can the embalming or don’t waste the flowers.  That’s right kiddies the reason people historically brought flowers to a funeral was to help hide the smell of rotting meat.

You see the hypocrisy I’m point out here is the fact that everyone is ok with us killing people, as long as we treat them with respect once they are dead?  C’mon people, we spend all of our time brainwashing soldiers into thinking that the enemy is inhuman, that’s how you get people to kill other people, by convincing them that the enemy is less than human.  Towel heads, Sand Niggers, Islamic fanatics, people who hate our freedom, liberals, hippies, all of the terms the state and corporations use to dehumanize their perceived enemies.  It’s not a new idea friends gooks, chinks, heinies, krauts, commies and of course Charlie.  It’s a tried and true method, just ask the kikes, the niggers, the faggots and the dykes see if anyone called by those names feels like this is the land of the free and the home of the brave, that we are all created equal under one God.

So in summary my friends, and those of you swearing at me right now, we’re a bunch of hypocrites.  We’re ok with killing the Taliban, bombing civilians to death in Iraq, assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists and government approved fake drownings that we gently call “waterboarding.”  We have no problem locking “Taliban” and “terrorists” away for the rest of their lives in Guantanamo Bay (and by the way with recent legislation even Americans), without as much as a trial, a lawyer or even anyone knowing they’re gone.  To those same people who wanted to ask me, I now turn that question around, what if it was your family killed, maimed or abducted in the middle of the night with no notice.   So really people, we’re ok with all of that, but we’re outraged by a couple of US Marines pissing on creatures we have spent our tax dollars convincing them are subhuman, really?

So if no one else will tonight, I will stand up for the US Marines, you know the Marines, when you absolutely, positively have to have something destroyed overnight.  We’ve made them our trained killers, sent them in first to every hellhole on the planet and for that we owe them our thanks, our apologies for what it does to them and their loved ones,  and more than a little forgiveness if they slip out of line now and then and do something as offensive and ultimately innocuous as pissing on some rotten meat.

So I’m watching CNN and a commercial comes on and it starts with a catchy Cajun beat, check it out:

Now if you didn’t watch the full minute, you might be wondering what are you upset about?  Go back and go to the last-minute, the last image lists the sponsor of the video BP.  Really!  I get the justification of asking or making BP spend money to help tourism in the Gulf of Mexico regions, you know, the Gulf of Mexico where they dumped millions of gallons of oil and totally disrupted the economy.  But should BP get the benefit of the advertising themselves attached to all of these wonderful vacation images?  My purpose in posting this is that hopefully it catches on, a few of you pass it on and people actually attach some negative emotion to BP every single time you see the ad.

Quite frankly I’d rather see this ad on the air, enjoy:

Occupy Wall Street comes to Sacramento

Several weeks ago the Occupy Wall Street movement came to Sacramento and unlike Wall Street, the folks Occupying Cesar Chavez park have to leave the park each night.  The technical rule is that they have to leave by 11PM, but usually the police wait until midnight each night before coming in and clearing the park.  During the first couple of weeks of the encampment, the protestors each night would inform the police of who would stay and be arrested, then the police in overwhelming force and with riot gear on would flood into the park and arrest the non-resisting demonstrators.  The show of force seems a bit overly dramatic as there have been no reports of resistance or trouble.  It also seems that the police know this as during the day, there are only a couple of officers present at any given time in the park as the protest has been very orderly.

Last week for the second time Occupy protestors went to City Hall, across the street from the park to ask for permission to occupy the park over night.  The protestors during the second week were indeed on the agenda and were denied the right to camp overnight in the park.

I’ve visited the park during three of the last four weeks on Saturday and the first two weeks the park was active and bustling, lots of signs and protestors and the second week lots of media.  This past Saturday the energy seems to have waned a bit and there were a lot fewer folks in the park.  Perhaps it was because it was Halloween Weekend or perhaps what happened in Oakland has people spooked, we’ll have to see next weekend when I visit again.

This past Saturday I have to say it was really nice to see volunteers in the park feeding anyone who needed a meal, that included protestors as well as a number of the downtown homeless population who reside in and around the park.  No matter what the political aspirations of the protestors are, their presence is doing some good for the homeless if no one else.

Below are a series of images I’ve taken in the park over the last couple of weeks:

So for a very long time I’ve been angry with corporations, it started in the 80′s when the issue came up regarding fast food restaurants using South American rainforest land to graze the cattle they used in their burgers. It was a bad deal, it hurt the environment of South America and took advantage of the people of the Amazon. Public outrage then took over and boycotts etc ensued. So as an answer to this McDonalds produced a commercial to let us all know they were dealing with it. They had a commercial with cowboys sitting around a fire in front of the chuck wagon and the end of the commercial said, McDonalds, serving 100% American Beef. Of course they were playing Americans for suckers, because SOUTH American beef is still AMERICAN beef.

Currently several industries are once again playing us all for suckers. Suddenly, there is clean coal everywhere, coal must have miraculously lost all of it’s polluting side effects. Apparently sulfur no longer pollutes the air causing acid rain, and mountain top strip mining doesn’t hurt the environment, create problematic runoff or screw up streams. That’s right coal is now a magic wonderful way to keep us off of foreign oil without polluting our environment.

But don’t worry, because both the tar sands contingencies and the natural gas folks assure us that if we use those resources everything is beautiful and we no longer need middle east oil. Of course extracting tar sands is highly expensive, starts by deforesting huge tracts of forest and uses massive amounts of water in the extractive process. Of course we also need miles and miles and miles of pipelines to transport all of this down from Canada, it’s not like there are ever problems with pipeline spills.

If that doesn’t work for you then of course you can just switch to natural gas, we’ve got a 400 year supply of cheap, clean and unbelievably efficient burning natural gas. It is the answer to all of our energy problems, and it’s safe, the drilling is well below the water table and fully contained as they fracture the rock and extract the gas. Well, totally safe except that they have to use massive amounts of water and carcinogenic chemicals, at least the ones we know of, they highly guard what chemicals they use. The gas infects the water table, check out the documentary Gasland if you want to get really scared. Of course that’s all just hype, gas companies are paying people to replace their water supplies in contaminated areas out of the kindness of their tiny beating corporate hearts.

Finally, my favorite, corn sugar, is just sugar, there is no problem at all. Well except that it’s used as high fructose corn sugar which ramps up the sugar levels in drinks to the point that a super-sized coke can damn near kill a diabetic.
